Thank you for your interest in working for the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM). We are a general agency of The United Methodist Church, located in Nashville, Tennessee, and our mission is to nurture lay and clergy leaders so they may discover, claim and flourish in God’s call.

Every United Methodist elder, deacon and licensed local pastor benefits from our training and candidacy programs. Many young adults find help in clarifying their vocation and God’s call on their lives through our leadership and discernment programs. We support and connect networks of more than 1,000 United Methodist and Methodist-related schools, colleges and universities around the world.

GBHEM has three primary areas of focus: Constituent Relations and Services, Product Innovation and Implementation, and Administrative Relations and Services. Within those areas there is a Division of Ordained Ministry and a Division of Higher Education. There are also organizational offices such as IT, Finance, Research, Communications, Human Resources, Loans and Scholarships, and the Office of the General Secretary. The Africa University Development Office is an attached office which does fundraising for Africa University in Zimbabwe.

GBHEM is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to Affirmative Action in all its practices related to recruitment, employment, promotions and transfers within the agency. GBHEM’s regular full-time and part-time staff are eligible for a variety of employee benefits as outlined within the agency’s personnel handbook (eligibility for each benefit is based upon employment status).
