Emmah Onacha, a student at Kenya Methodist University, is using the financial support provided by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) to pursue her degree in Information Science. The $450 International Grants and Scholarship Program scholarship is helping her overcome financial barriers and achieve her educational and career goals.

“GBHEM’s financial support has been instrumental, rescuing me from financial constraints and empowering me to realize my dreams through education,” Onacha said. “This scholarship is enabling me to focus on my academic pursuits without the burden of financial obstacles. It’s giving me the opportunity to fulfill my educational aspirations and, upon graduation, open doors to job opportunities that will improve my quality of life.”

Onacha’s decision to study Information Science was motivated by the growing need for effective management of the vast amounts of information in today’s digital world. “Information science teaches me how to manage, organize, and critically evaluate information, ensuring it’s accessible, reliable, and useful when needed. These skills will be valuable in any field, from business to healthcare, and will help me make informed decisions that can improve lives.”

In addition to her studies, Onacha serves as the secretary for the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Awareness Program, organizing prevention initiatives to educate the youth and their families. She also works as the secretary for the HIV & AIDS committee, coordinating sensitization programs that provide support and raise awareness about prevention methods.

“I am passionate about giving back to my community,” Onacha said. “Through my leadership roles, I can help educate and empower others while contributing to spiritual growth as a member of the praise and worship team.”

Onacha expressed deep gratitude for the GBHEM scholarship, which she believes will help her build a brighter future. “This scholarship means the world to me,” she said. “It’s not just financial help; it’s a chance to make my dreams a reality. I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to earn my degree, and I’m excited to see where it will take me.”
