Register Now for Annual Conference Leaders in Collegiate Ministry Training

The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) will host Tending Holy Currencies: Training for Annual Conference Leaders in Collegiate Ministry in Nashville, Tennessee on April 23-26, 2018. Registration is available now through March 23, 2018. The event is designed to provide resources and ongoing coaching for members of the Annual Conference Boards of Higher Education and Campus Ministry, collegiate ministers and board members of local collegiate ministry programs.

“The previous focus of this conference had been to provide guidance on communicating the positive story of collegiate ministry in the Annual Conferences. However, based on our research and interactions with collegiate ministry leaders, there is a clear need for a visionary model of sustaining ministry that included meaning, purpose, and funding,” said Rev. Matthew Charlton, Ph.D., assistant general secretary, Collegiate Ministry at GBHEM.

The Collegiate Ministry Office at GBHEM has partnered with the Kaleidoscope Institute and Rev. Eric Law for the 2018 training. This upcoming conference will immerse participants in the Holy Currencies Model for Sustainable Missional Ministries, as developed by Law and the Kaleidoscope Institute. In this model, sustainable missional ministries operate within a “cycle of blessings” described by six currencies necessary for ministry: time and place; gracious leadership, relationships, truth, wellness, and money.

Annual Conferences who send members to this training will able to access six months of group coaching with Law on the implementation of this model. Each attendee will take home a copy of his book, “Holy Currencies: Six Blessings for Sustainable Missional Ministries.” The book gives an overview of the Holy Currencies/Cycle of Blessings model. It describes all six currencies including what they are, how to develop them, the exchanges of blessings impact, and how to assist congregation members to value them. Also, the book showcases five missional and sustainable ministries that exemplify the Cycle of Blessings.

Worship and devotional time will be led by Rev. Sherry Cothran, a United Methodist pastor and songwriter. Her music ponders the wisdom tradition and explores the stories of women in scripture, including both common biblical identities, and those who are more hidden. Cothran will lead a workshop on innovative worship practices as well.
